Unique and Specially-Selected Food Tastings – Our guided Gourmet Food Tour visits seven food tasting locations within the quaint village of Carmel-by-the-Sea. The food samplings on this tour are sure to stimulate your salivary glands, and satisfy your appetite for a satisfying lunch that is chock-full of variety. Each tasting is served from locally-owned and operated specialty food stores and ethnic or locavore-style eateries.

Stops may include farm-to-table restaurants, chocolates that have been made with the same recipes for more than 100 years, and small-batch, award-winning wines that are grown and fermented exclusively within Monterey County. Your Carmel tour will last about three hours and provides delicious tastings that are an adequate lunch for most. All food and tastings are included in the ticket price of $94.

Cultural, Historic and Architectural Experiences – Between the great tastings, you’ll stroll as locals do: through hidden passageways, exploring less-crowded side streets and discovering where to enjoy the freshest food and best wine. Recommendations for meals and lodging, architectural jewels, gorgeous displays of local flora and fauna, and places whose history make Carmel what it is are all shared with you by our enthusiastic, local guides.

We'll meet in the courtyard of Carmel's Sunset Cultural Center, located at 9th Ave & San Carlos St in Carmel. Carmel-by-the-Sea doesn't have addresses, so navigate to this intersection and park nearby. There is free street parking all day (south of 8th Ave - watch the signs!), and a free parking lot on the north end of the Cultural Center. The courtyard is located EXACTLY at the 9th & San Carlos intersection, down a set of steps. The Gothic architecture makes it look like a church, but it's not. You'll get the whole story on that during the tour. Your guide will arrive approximately 10-15 minutes prior to the tour and will be looking for you!

Have questions? Here's the most frequently asked.

What if I have dietary restrictions or allergies?

These tours are designed to showcase the foods of Carmel and Monterey County and are not available with a la carte options.  We have carefully selected food tastings in partnership with our vendors that reflect the uniqueness of our area and its food scene, and these selections often include meat, wheat, and dairy products.  We CAN accommodate vegetarian/pescatarian diets. Please understand that by adhering to a Vegan, Gluten-Free, lactose-intolerant, or low-FODMAPs diet you will have limited tastings that fit your dietary preferences, and that substitutions may not resemble the selections made for guests without restrictions, or may not be available at all.

Is the tour wheelchair and baby stroller accessible?

Carmel is fond of its many trees, which sometimes affect the width and/or the smoothness of sidewalks. Restaurants and specialty shops are often cozy and may ask you to leave your stroller outside if they are full. There are several short flights of stairs on the route which we can direct you around, and there are steps into some our tasting locations. You are the best judge of your abilities to push and/or assist over any obstacles; our tour leaders are unable to assist you in gaining access to a location that may not be ADA-accessible due to structural infeasibility.

Do I have to purchase tickets in advance?

Yes, tickets must be purchased in advance. Tours often sell out so we suggest purchasing your tickets early to guarantee your desired tour day. You can buy your Carmel Food Tours tickets with Visa, MasterCard or American Express.

Can I shop during the tour?

We ask that you please wait to shop until after the tour so that we can stay on our food-tasting schedule and continue with the informative tour and food tastings in a timely manner. We ask that you allow time at the end of the tour to return to your favorite locations and/or stores. The tours are scheduled for arrival at each tasting location so the food is freshly prepared for the participants.

Does the tour leader accept gratuities?

If you feel that the tour leader met or exceeded your expectations you are welcome to reward him/her as an expression of your appreciation. Leaving a gratuity is at your discretion, and the standard gratuity in the service industry is 15%.
